Nacho de Paz was born in 1974 in Oviedo, Spain, and has Master's Degrees in Piano and Composition. He completed his studies in Barcelona with honours degrees.

He studied Composition with José Luis de Delás and Orchestral Conducting with Arturo Tamayo. He has received advice of Pierre Boulez (Paris & Luzern).

During the season 2006/07, the Ensemble Modern (Frankfurt) gave him a scholarship as Conductor in the Internationale Ensemble Modern Akademie.

He has collaborated with Arturo Tamayo in many orchestral productions (Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, Orquesta Sinfónica de Euskadi, Orquesta del Teatro Nacional Sao Carlos de Lisboa, Orquestra Simfónica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, Joven Orquesta Nacional de España, Orquesta y Coro Nacional de España, Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra...etc.), as well as in different recording productions (Timpani Records, Claves, Stradivarius, Col Legno... etc.).

From 2001 to 2005 he was conductor of the Ensemble Obert and the new Diabouls in Musica (group founded by Joan Guinjoan in Barcelona in 1965). Both groups were focused on the diffusion of the music of the XXth century and of the international avant-garde scene.

During 2003/2004 he also was Assistant Conductor in the Academia de Música Contemporánea (Contemporary Music Academy). The Academia was founded in 2003 by the INAEM (National Institute for Music and Performing Arts of the Spanish Ministry of Culture).

His repertoire is extensive and varied and ranges from the most important works of the classical and romantic periods (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn...etc.) to a wide catalogue of authors from the XXth century and the avant-garde (Debussy, Mahler, Stravinsky, Schönberg, Webern, Bartok, Lutoslawski, Boulez, Stockhausen, Donatoni, Berio, Nono, Feldman, Xenakis, Ibarrondo, Guinjoan, Delás, Grisey, Dusapin, Manoury, Haubenstock-Ramati, Lachenmann, Sánchez-Verdú, Lindberg, Romitelli, Saariaho, Charles, Huber...).

He has conducted in places like the Centro de Cultura Contemporánea of Barcelona, the Teatro Monumental, the Auditorio 500 (MNCARS) & Auditorio Nacional of Madrid, Palacio de Carlos V of Granada, Palacio de Festivales of Santander, L'Auditori of Barcelona, Festival Aujourd’hui Musiques of Perpignan, Paulskirche and Alte Oper of Frankfurt, Sprechwerk of Hamburg, ZKM of Karlsruhe, Schauspielfrankfurt, Arnold Schönberg Center and the Radio Kulturhaus (ORF) of Vienna at the head of Ensemble Obert, Academia de Música Contemporánea, Grup Instrumental BCN 216, Internationale Ensemble Modern Akademie, Proyecto Guerrero, Orquesta y Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid and the Ensemble Modern among others.

With Arturo Tamayo and André Richard he conducted the Spanish Premiere of "Prometeo, tragedia del'ascolto" of Luigi Nono (2003, Madrid). He was Assistant Conductor and Instrumentist in the spanish premieres of "Silvano Sylvano" & "La Passion selon Sade" of Sylvano Bussotti and collaborated with the composer himself (2004, Madrid).

He has made recordings for Radio Nacional de España (RNE), Televisión Española (TVE), Fundación Autor (SGAE), Osterreichisches Rundfunk (ORF), Hessisches Rundfunk (HR) and ZDF (TV).

He was awarded the international composition prizes Joan Guinjoan (2002), Luigi Russolo (2003) and SGAE (2004).

He is Professor of Analysis of Contemporary Music at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Aragón (Spain).
